Summary

The Peaine Township Board of Trustees is the governing body of Peaine Township, the larger of the two civil townships on Beaver Island. It is a five-member board on the ordinary Michigan pattern — supervisor, clerk, treasurer and two trustees — and meets at the township hall, 36825 King’s Highway, with regular meetings called for 5:30 pm.

Composition in the held record

The minutes name the members with their offices. Across the whole held run, from January 2025 to July 2026, the five are unchanged:

Motions are minuted by surname — “MOTION Stebbins, second Cary” — and those five surnames account for essentially all of the moving and seconding in the corpus, which is a second, independent confirmation of the membership.

What the board does, as minuted

The business in the held run falls into a few recurring kinds:

• Roads and public works — including Resolution 14-2026, adopted 19 May 2026, requesting a traffic-engineering and safety study for four Peaine Township roads; gravel for the Font Lake Park parking area; park and trail maintenance.
• Appointments to island-wide bodies. The board seats members on the Emergency Services Authority, the district library board, and the township board of review. Its ESA motions distinguish a township board representative from ordinary board members, seating both.
• Budget amendments, moved line by line and carried at the meeting.
• Personnel — hourly rates and continuing appointments for township staff.

That ratio is worth noticing: on this board the special meeting is not an exception but a routine instrument, used for the business that will not wait for the monthly cycle — budget adoption, appointments falling due, and the joint sittings with the other township.

Each opens with the hall address and the hour, records who called the meeting to order and in what office, then lists members present and absent by name and office. Business is minuted as motions in a consistent form — mover, seconder, the action in a single sentence, and the outcome — with roll-call votes written out by name where a resolution requires one. Reports from the township’s officers and from the island-wide bodies follow, and the meeting closes on a motion to adjourn with the time.
