Summary

The Mary Margaret is named in the November 1968 Beaver Beacon as the mail boat tied at the old Booth Fish Dock during the November 11, 1940 storm. As the water rose and the dock began to fail, its crew fired the boat and cast off to ride out the storm in the harbor.

Evidence and limits

This is a source-qualified vessel record. It does not establish registry, dimensions, owner, operator, or whether it is the same vessel as the separately qualified Mary Margaret named in the 1945 East Jordan FFA outing report.

Sources

  1. A family member identified the Allers-owned Mary Margaret as the Charlevoix–Beaver Island mail boat from 1937 to 1948, which overlaps the 1940 storm reference. Because the forum thread also discusses later boats and similarly named Chippewa vessels, this is treated as a possible identity connection, not a resolved registry identification.

  2. Names the Mary Margaret as the mail boat tied at the old Booth Fish Dock, says its crew fired it up and cast off to run out the storm in the harbor, and supplies no registry or technical details.
