Summary
The St. James Township Board authorized formation of a Gull Harbor Natural Area (GHNA) Committee on January 21, 2026. The approved minutes name four Island representatives and provide for participation from Little Traverse Conservancy. By July, a forum advocacy notice described continuing community disagreement about the committee’s transparency and the future of historic motorized access.
Evidence and limits
The same action authorized the Committee to apply to the Charlevoix County Community Foundation for a management plan and some improvements. It is not evidence that a grant was awarded, a plan was prepared, a committee meeting was held, or any improvement was completed. The minutes do not supply bylaws, full membership terms, decision-making rules, or continuing authority. The July forum account should be read as evidence that these issues were being publicly contested, not as proof of the account’s allegations about EGLE, conflicts, road status, or township procedure.
