Summary
On 14 April 1943, the Charlevoix Courier reported that ice conditions had prevented the transfer of lighthouse keepers from Charlevoix to South Fox Island and Iles aux Galets after navigation had reopened through the Straits of Mackinac. The report said that the crews would be transferred once ice blocking Charlevoix Harbor cleared.
Evidence and limits
This is a contemporaneous newspaper report of a particular operational delay. It does not identify the crew members or vessel, show when transfer ultimately occurred, establish whether either light was illuminated or unattended during the delay, or provide a complete navigation-season chronology. The report’s “Ile aux Geles” spelling is retained in the source note; this article links it to the separately sourced Iles aux Galets light-station record rather than treating spelling as a separate place.
