Summary
Museum Week 2011 was scheduled for July 18-23. The May 2011 Beaver Beacon calendar repeats the dates, and the June issue supplies a detailed schedule including the July 23 Beaver Tales program about the Shoe Tree and the July 20-22 art show. The July issue reports that the recent museums open house was successful and that the Society was digitizing interview recordings. The August issue retrospectively reports the completed week, including the art show, Nature Walk for Kids, Protar Home opening, Notre Dame archaeology discussion, Pet Show, and Dennis Banks program.
Program
Monday: Music on the Porch, with hostess Kathy Speck, at the Print Shop. Tuesday: a Bingo game at the Parish Hall, after which “the action switches to the Community Center” for the rest of the week’s evening program. Wednesday: Deb Rotman spoke on Island Archaeology and Irish culture — her third consecutive year presenting archaeological work during Museum Week, following her 2010 dig at the Doney house. Thursday: Herb Manthei presented his family’s 1960s Garden Island logging enterprise. Friday: Seamus Norgaard showed oral-history interviews and set them in a narrative context. Saturday: a Beaver Tales stage production of a new play, Shoe Tree, at the Community Center. The Museum Week Art Show ran Wednesday through Friday (per the April preview) or, per the same issue’s calendar listing, July 20-22, at the Gregg Fellowship Center.
Evidence limits
Only a January description (general, collective, not year-specific in its
program detail beyond “typically 75 people”), an April schedule, a May
calendar entry, a June detailed schedule, and the July preview survive for
2011; the July issue still does not provide a Museum Week attendance or outcome
report. This article therefore describes the
announced plan, not a verified outcome. succeeded_by is left unset, since
the next known Museum Week account (2024, in the Northern Islander)
follows a 2012-2023 gap in coverage; see the hub article’s Coverage and
evidence limits section.
Open questions
- Did the Museum Week 2011 program run as planned? No later 2011 issue is known to confirm or correct the June detailed schedule; the July issue is still prospective.
- What happened to Museum Week during the 2012-2023 gap in coverage? Not addressed by any known source.
