Summary

Loretta Loyola “Loy” Malloy (1925–2008), a daughter of Joseph Lawrence Malloy and Ethel McDonough Malloy of St. James, was elected a director of the Beaver Island Civic Association on January 5, 1961, and again the following year. In December 1974 she gave to the Medical Center Building Fund in lieu of sending Christmas cards, a notice printed under the name “Loy Malloy.”

Evidence and limits

Three sources use the two forms of her name interchangeably: the 1963 obituary for her mother calls her “Miss Loretta Loy Malloy,” the 1961 and 1962 civic-association notices call her “Loretta Malloy,” and the 1974 holiday notice calls her “Loy Malloy.” Combined with the cemetery index’s “Loretta Loyola Malloy, ‘Loy,’” this is treated as one woman rather than two, and the two Beacon appearances are documented in this record and in Loy Malloy, which is kept as its own episode-qualified notice. None of the sources supply a term length, vote count, occupation, or marriage record; her 1925–2008 lifespan comes from the cemetery index alone.
