Summary
In June 2017, LIAA and island partners solicited public input for a Beaver Island Water Trail, including potential access sites, community assets, and universal accessibility. An October forum update then reported a DNR special land-use order authorizing designated campsites on state-held wildlife-area land as part of the developing trail system.
Evidence limits
The forum notices establish the planning process and reported funding and partners. The DNR order should be used as the controlling source for the campsite authorization. This record does not define the final route, access rights, maintenance responsibility, or completion status.
Open questions
- Which access sites were ultimately selected for the Water Trail, and do they include the DNR-authorized wildlife-area campsites?
- Who funded the LIAA-led planning process, and did that funding carry through to construction?
If you can answer any of these, or correct anything above, the archive wants to hear it — see Corrections.
