Summary

The February 1974 Beaver Beacon Game News describes winter deer, rabbit, fox, and coyote conditions and reports that Bill Wagner and Dick Burris cut about ten acres of small poplar to provide browse and cover. Sheldon Parker’s account also describes a rabbit-hunting visit to Garden Island over an ice bridge.

Evidence and limits

The account is a source-bounded wildlife and habitat report, not a census or formal management record. The intended additional cutting, wildlife condition, and Garden and High Island observations are not treated as measured outcomes.

Sources

  1. Sheldon Parker reports approximately 10 inches of snow in the woods, deer winter condition, few fox and coyote tracks after the prior year's mange epidemic, an ice bridge toward Garden and High Islands, and a rabbit-hunting trip to Garden Island. The report also says Bill Wagner and Dick Burris cut about ten acres of small poplar for deer and rabbit browse, with more cutting intended; it does not provide a map, formal work log, wildlife census, or later outcome.
