Summary

The Book of the Law of the Lord is a Strangite scripture/legal text associated with the Saint James press. The project holds a 1991 enlarged facsimile reprint representing the 1856 Saint James edition, together with editorial material that distinguishes it from the earlier 80-page 1851 edition.

The reprint identifies the later edition as a 320-page text (pages 17–336) with ten additional chapters and notes. Its stated editorial history is itself part of the source context: the 1856 edition was reportedly not bound with a title page, testimony, or preface before Strang’s death, and the reprint supplies material from the earlier edition.

Evidence limits

This entry describes the held facsimile and its stated relationship to the 1851 and 1856 editions. It does not authenticate an original 1856 copy, settle all edition/binding questions, prove printing quantities, or independently validate Strang’s translation claims or the text’s asserted religious authority.

Sources

  1. The held reprint’s editorial preface says the 1856 Saint James edition consisted of pages 17–336 and added ten chapters and notes to the 80-page 1851 forerunner. It also says the 1856 edition was never bound with a title page, testimony, or preface before Strang’s death; the 1991 title page is conjectural and the testimony/preface are typeset from the earlier 1851 edition. Accordingly, this record supports the held edition/reprint relationship and the text as presented, not unqualified claims about every bibliographic feature of an original 1856 copy.
