Summary
The 1878 second edition of Baraga’s dictionary repeats the entry “Beaver Island, in Lake Michigan, Amikogenda” on its p. 25. It therefore confirms the form’s continuation in that later edition while remaining editorially dependent on the dictionary tradition represented by the 1853 edition.
Evidence and limits
This source is evidence of what the 1878 edition printed. It does not establish a new independent name observation, decide current preferred spelling or pronunciation, or replace Anishinaabe community and language-authority sources.
