Summary

The Sundew was a Coast Guard cutter that visited Beaver Island on October 1, 1963. The Beaver Beacon says its crew and accompanying families came ashore, and island teachers and students toured the vessel.

Evidence and limits

The local notice supports the vessel name, Coast Guard classification, and this visit only. It does not supply the cutter’s official number, dimensions, commanding officer, or complete operational history. A March 1971 report adds a separate operational attestation: Sundew made two mid-March supply visits, broke through approximately 2½ feet of blue ice, and hosted a school tour under Lt. Cmdr. Burl Williams. It does not resolve the cutter’s official identity or full service chronology.
