Summary
Patrick McDonough is the Library of Congress catalog authority attached to three Beaver Island recordings made at Saint James on August 27–28, 1938. The catalog gives his lifespan as 1862–1947 and labels him a performer; it does not yet support a broader life history.
Catalog-supported connection
McDonough is named as sole listed performer on the two Tommy Boyle sides (AFS 02289 A and B) and as a co-performer with John W. Green on AFS 02288 B. The dates and Saint James location apply to the recording sessions. They are not proof that he lived in Saint James, was the sole singer of every cataloged title, or authored any song.
Identity limits
The identity here stops at the catalog, deliberately. It is not merged with Patrick McDonough, whose 1972 retrospective source names a Patrick McDonough in an unrelated 1900 family-and-recovery account but does not provide a lifespan or a connection to the 1938 performer. A shared name and island context are not enough to assert that they are the same person.
Open questions
- Which civil, parish, census, obituary, family-history, or original field notes can connect this catalog authority to a fuller biography?
- Are there session notes that distinguish voices, titles, or musical roles on the co-performer item?
- Can a source establish or rule out a connection with the separate 1900 Patrick McDonough record?
