Summary

Elizabeth Gibson Redner is the name assigned to a reported later daughter of William Gibson and Rose Ann Boyle, said to have married Clarence Redner in January 1896 and to have been a widow by a 1918 directory entry. Her identity and birth date remain unresolved.

Evidence and limits

The later account’s 1878 birth claim conflicts with the Clarke transcription of a first Elizabeth Gibson of the same parents, born in 1877 and dead in infancy in 1879. The family notes report a later Elizabeth who married Charles/Clarence Redner, but do not supply an original record that distinguishes her from the infant or documents her birth. The retained “after 1918” value is a lower bound from the reported widow directory entry, not a death date.

Open questions

  • Can the original January 1896 marriage record establish the bride’s age, parents, and the groom’s given name?
  • Can the 1900 Chicago census and 1918 Gary directory be obtained as primary images and connected to the marriage record?
