Summary

Edward Gallagher (born September 7, 1863) is named as William Gibson’s partner in the 13 August 1885 drowning. The Clarke Historical Library transcriptions identify him as the son of Bernard (also recorded as Bryan) Gallagher and Catherine Malloy.

Open questions

  • What vessel and location were involved in the loss?
  • Can an original death record resolve the 13, 14, or 16 August date discrepancy?

Described in this archive: Northern Islander, 1850–1856.
Names Edward Gallagher as William Gibson's partner in the 13 August 1885 drowning; no additional identity details are supplied. No public copy of this file is known; the archive holds one and can provide it on request.
  2. The church transcription lists Edward, son of Bernard/Bryan Gallagher and Catherine Malloy, as born September 7, 1863 and drowned in 1885. The census transcription identifies the same Edward as a 17-year-old Michigan-born boarder in 1880 and says he drowned with William Gibson. The transcriptions give August 14 and August 16 for the death, respectively; the existing 13 August event date is retained as the reported drowning date, with the discrepancy preserved.
