Summary

The February 1968 Beaver Beacon announced the party as “the 14th year for the event,” held March 9, 1968, at St. Kevin’s Church Hall, 10513 Torrence Avenue, Chicago — the first appearance of the St. Kevin’s venue in the held run, which recurs through the 1976 and 1979 editions. Rev. Bernard Scheid, St. Kevin’s pastor, donated use of the hall. The April issue reported “a huge crowd” and named six islanders who attended.

Fourteen years back from 1968 places the first party in 1955 (1968 − 13 = 1955), consistent with the hub’s arithmetic from five other numbered editions and with the 12th-annual figure directly stated for 1966.

Program

Dancing and entertainment with the Bill Stack Band, sandwiches and salad “all you can eat,” and cash door prizes, for a $2.50 per-person ($1.50 per child under 18) donation. Rev. Bernard Scheid is named as St. Kevin’s pastor and as the donor of the hall.

Evidence limits

The April report is qualitative (“a huge crowd,” “a wonderful time”) without an attendance count or proceeds figure, though it does name six islanders who attended.

Open questions

  • Was St. Kevin’s Church Hall a new venue in 1968, or had the party used it in earlier years not documented here (the 1967 edition used the Flying Roof Hall in Calumet City instead)?
