Summary

The March 1960 Beaver Beacon announced the Chicago-Beaver Island St. Patrick’s party for March 19, 1960, at 92nd and Cottage Grove Avenue — a block from the Eagles Hall address (9231-33 Cottage Grove Avenue) used for the 1961 and 1962 editions. The April issue reported the party “a great success” and named eight islanders who traveled to Chicago to attend.

Program

The March notice gives only the date and cross-street venue. The April report adds no program detail (band, menu, donation amount) beyond calling it a success and naming the island attendees: Bert and Mary McDonough, Jewell Gillespie, W.J. Gallagher, Vernon LaFreniere, Eva and Lloyd McDonough, Russell Palmer, and Loy Malloy.

Evidence limits

Neither issue gives an ordinal, a chairman’s name, an attendance count, or a proceeds figure. The evidence establishes that the party occurred at a Cottage Grove Avenue venue and that a delegation of named islanders attended, but not its scale or its financial outcome.

Open questions

  • Is “92nd and Cottage Grove Avenue” (1960) the same location later given as “9231-33 Cottage Grove Avenue” (Eagles Hall, 1961–1962), or a nearby but distinct hall?
  • Did this edition’s proceeds go to Holy Cross Church, consistent with every other edition in the series where a beneficiary is named?
