Summary
The fishing boat Lucie A. was caught near Fox Island in a gale with blinding snow. The crew beached her, found her adrift and pounding in the surf, patched her with material from the beach and her floor, and waited for help as provisions ran low. The tug Margaret McCann found the party, after which Roy Ranger and a crew took the gasoline boat Rhine to tow the Lucie A. home. The damaged boat leaked badly, nearly sank during the passage, and was beached again in safety.
Evidence and limits
The report is a clipped or interleaved reprint ending with the credit “Charlevoix Sentinel”; its clean heading and opening are not present in the normalized OCR. It gives a Saturday/Monday sequence but no unambiguous numeric day, so the event is dated only to December 1913. The source names no members of the Lucie A. crew, gives no boat registry or dimensions, and does not establish an exact Fox Island location or permanent vessel outcome.
