Summary
The March 1964 Beaver Beacon announced a three-day Michigan Outdoor Writers Association convention beginning June 11 on Beaver Island. The June issue reported that roughly 60 writers were being hosted from June 11 through 14, with Central Michigan University facilities, Beaver Lodge, and motel units handling lodging. It identified Gregg Smith and Charles Welsh as co-chairmen, Howard Sommess of Central Michigan University as a collaborator, and the Beaver Island Game Club as host. An August follow-up printed Leonard R. Barnes’s thanks for the meeting and said it had been considered the organization’s best meeting in twenty years.
