Summary

At its February 1961 meeting, the Beaver Island Civic Association decided by a majority vote to eradicate the existing fish in Fox Lake and restock desirable species. Max Hunt outlined timing alternatives, and the Association chose the quickest route, accepting the loss of a summer fishing season.

Evidence and limits

The March notice records the decision and conditional plan. It does not itself prove the treatment, fish removal, or restocking; later June and December reports are recorded separately.

Reports that Conservation Department biologist Fukano and Fish Division representative Jerry Meyers poisoned Fox Lake on May 1, discussed conditional rainbow or brown trout planting after testing, and that the Civic Association voted unanimously for the trout plan on May 5. The stated plantings are prospective and do not establish later survival.
