Summary

The January 1977 Beaver Beacon continues its “Boats To Beaver Island” series with a retrospective account of the J. Oswald Boyd grounding on Simmons Reef in 1936 and the reported Beaver Island gasoline-salvage trips of the package freighter Ramblar.

Evidence and limits

This is retrospective newspaper publication evidence. It does not replace vessel logs, salvage contracts, cargo manifests, or a complete casualty and salvage chronology.

Sources

  1. Retrospectively reports the 244-foot tanker J. Oswald Boyd grounding on Simmons Reef on November 11, 1936, its abandonment, and a local gasoline-salvage effort in which the 65-foot package freighter Ramblar reportedly made trips carrying about 9,000 gallons per trip. The installment is a retrospective newspaper account, not a vessel log, salvage contract, cargo manifest, or complete chronology. The holding institution's portal restricts automated access; the archive holds a copy of this issue and can provide it on request.
