Summary

On February 26, 1999, Beaver Island lost its mainland power supply when the feeding cable failed, shortly after Wolverine Power Supply workers had mothballed and red-tagged the island plant. After approvals and refueling, the emergency generator restored service. The Beacon reports that Great Lakes Energy was considering cable repair and standby generators.

This record preserves the Beacon’s contemporaneous account and does not independently establish the cable’s engineering condition or the later fix.
