Summary

In 1969, Beaver Island’s Medical Center Auxiliary pursued a telephone-linked electrocardiograph. By July the Beacon described Cambridge equipment with an Interbase Cable that could transmit a cardiograph to Little Traverse Hospital’s Coronary Center for specialist interpretation. An October report said the equipment had been installed and had transmitted six reports by phone and eight by mail to a coronary center at Petoskey or Traverse City. November and December fundraising, including $203.75 from the Christmas Gift Tree, and the January 1970 report addressed the remaining balance.

Evidence and limits

The March notice describes a goal, the July notice describes equipment and its intended communications path, and the October notice reports installation and fourteen transmissions. The November and January notices describe fundraising and payment. The sources do not establish patient identities, clinical outcomes, an exact installation date, or a complete clinical-use log.
