Summary

In its November 1966 report, the Beaver Island Historical Society said 876 people visited its museum between June 14 and October 26 and that museum book sales totaled $750 for the year. It listed books about island history for sale, said the museum would remain open in the fall by telephone arrangement, and reported 17 life members. The report also noted a $100 check from Dr. and Mrs. Walker H. Hill and a four-installment plan for new life memberships.

Evidence and limits

This is a contemporaneous institutional report reproduced in the local newspaper. It documents reported attendance, sales, access, and membership figures, not an audited financial statement, visitor register, complete membership roll, or museum collections inventory.

Open questions

  • What were the Society’s complete 1966 receipts, expenses, and membership roll?
  • Which listed books and objects were held by the museum, and where are their accession records?
  • How did the reported 1966 season compare with the Society’s 1967 operations?
