Summary

Fox Lake’s 1963 trout season opened on April 27 after the reported planting of 3,500 legal-size brook trout the previous fall. The May Beaver Beacon asked anglers not to use minnows and to register fishing time and catch on a sheet at the launch. The June issue said trout fishing remained good but had eased as insects hatched.

Evidence and limits

These are local conservation and fishing reports, not a stocking certificate, formal creel census, or later regulation. The sources do not provide a complete catch return or prove the number of fish surviving in 1963.

Open questions

  • Can state fisheries records confirm the 3,500-fish planting and the registration results?
