Summary

On 23 July 2008, fog prevented both fixed-wing and Coast Guard helicopter transport for a Beaver Island medical emergency. Under an EMS agreement with the Beaver Island Boat Company, the Beaver Islander departed with the ambulance and took the patient directly to Charlevoix Hospital—described as the first use of this plan.

Evidence limits

The report documents the transport procedure and conditions but does not identify the patient or disclose medical details.

Reports that fog prevented aircraft and Coast Guard helicopter response, so EMS used its ferry compact with the Beaver Island Boat Company; Captain Kevin McDonough departed the Beaver Islander with the ambulance and no other passengers or freight.
