Summary
In September 2016, Beaver Island notices asked residents to report dead birds and help monitor beaches after a mainland cormorant reportedly tested positive for Newcastle disease and local dead birds had been observed. The proposed monitoring included Donegal Bay, Sand Bay, Iron Ore Bay, and Green’s Bay.
Evidence limits
This is a community disease-response and observation record. It does not prove that Newcastle disease or avian botulism occurred on Beaver Island, nor does it preserve a subsequent DNR test result.
