In September 2016, Beaver Island notices asked residents to report dead birds and help monitor beaches after a mainland cormorant reportedly tested positive for Newcastle disease and local dead birds had been observed. The proposed monitoring included Donegal Bay, Sand Bay, Iron Ore Bay, and Green’s Bay.
