Summary

Judith D. Soule’s Biodiversity of Michigan’s Great Lakes Islands: Knowledge, Threats and Protection is a 156-page survey prepared by the Michigan Natural Features Inventory in April 1993 for the Land and Water Management Division, under a Coastal Zone Management contract. It gathers what was then known about the biological value of Michigan’s Great Lakes islands, the pressures on them, and the protection options available.

It is the earliest of the statewide island-biodiversity syntheses held here, and the reference point that later work — including MNFI Great Lakes Islands 1998–2002 final inventory synthesis — builds on.
