Summary
The Nellie was the first steam vessel documented in the held local history as serving the Charlevoix–Beaver Island mail and passenger run. A February 1973 Beaver Beacon retrospective says Captain Peter D. Campbell owned and captained her and that her small size and carrying capacity led him to acquire the Eric L. Hackley. The Clarke Historical Library subject cards date the first passenger vessel on the route to 1895 and give the Nellie a length of 60 feet.
