Summary

Margaret Bridget “Teresa” Boyle Gallagher (circa 1917–2011) is identified by a 1991 local obituary and later community-history profiles as the wife of James W. “Young James” Gallagher and mother of Teresa Janet O’Donnell, Eleanor Mary McDonough, and Brian J. Gallagher. The family branch is called the Bowery Gallaghers.

Evidence and limits

The 1991 obituary establishes her maiden name, marriage, and named children; the held interview corroborates the family branch. A July 2011 Beacon notice reports her death at age 94, supporting an approximate birth year but not an exact birth or death date.

Open questions

  • Which civil, parish, or death record establishes Teresa’s exact vital dates?

Sources

  1. The July 2011 Beacon reports the loss of Island-born Teresa (Boyle) Gallagher, age 94, and says she helped found the Medical Center before the family moved to Charlevoix in 1959. The reported age supports only the approximate 1917 birth year recorded here; the notice does not give a date of death.
  2. James W. Gallagher's obituary identifies his surviving wife as Teresa Boyle Gallagher, records their 25 October 1933 Chicago marriage, and names their children Teresa Janet O'Donnell, Eleanor Mary McDonough, and Brian J. Gallagher. It does not state Teresa's own birth or death date.
  3. Michelle LaFreniere, "On the Front Porch with Eleanor McDonough," *Northern Islander*, February 2026.
The interview names Theresa Gallagher as Eleanor's mother and describes the Gallagher family home, farm, and three children; it does not provide Theresa's dates or a full civil-record biography. No public copy of this file is known; the archive holds one and can provide it on request.
