- Beaver Island History Map, 1978 revision
Summary
Daniel C. “Piper” Gallagher was the Beaver Island farmer whom Helen Collar’s notes identify as the namesake of Piper’s Corner. A daughter’s 1981 obituary identifies Daniel C. and Mary Ann Gallagher as the parents of eleven children raised there and says they operated a boarding house in the family home.
Evidence and limits
The sources establish Dan “Piper” Gallagher, his household at the corner, and a generation of children. They do not yet reconstruct the 1978 Historical Map’s claim of three generations at the locality. That needs a documented chain of residence or ownership, rather than merely three genealogical generations.
Open questions
- What are Daniel and Mary Ann Gallagher’s exact vital dates and marriage record?
- Which children or grandchildren continued to reside at Piper’s Corner?
- Can deeds identify the boarding-house parcel and ownership chain?

- Identifies Kathryn as a daughter of Daniel C. and Mary Ann “Piper” Gallagher, the last of eleven children raised at Piper’s Corner, and says the parents operated a boarding house there. This documents one household generation and the locality; it does not prove the map’s “three generations” phrase.
