A horse-drawn wagon and bunting-decorated car move past spectators during a street parade.

Visual descriptionwritten by a machine · unchecked

A horse-drawn wagon carrying several people moves along a paved street, led by two harnessed horses and accompanied by a man on foot. Spectators sit and stand along the roadside beneath trees, while a car decorated with red, white, and blue bunting follows beside the wagon. American flags and other decorations are visible throughout the scene.

A model wrote this. It was shown the image and the catalogue record together, and asked to keep them apart — what it saw is here, what the record told it is under "taken from the record" below. It is still wrong often enough to matter, about who is pictured, where, when, and what is happening. Read it as a way to find the image, never as evidence about it. If you can correct it, please do: write to michael.bommarito@gmail.com, or see how corrections work. Someone who recognises a face or a shoreline knows more than the model did.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Taken from the record

Not observed in the image — supplied by the archive's own catalogue, and repeated here so the two stay distinguishable.

The catalogue identifies this photograph as part of a 4th of July 2003 gallery and dates it September 2, 2003. The holder credits Beaver Beacon and individual photographers; the filename includes the credit string JC_5788, but no photographer name is confirmed in the record.

Could not make out

Stated rather than guessed at.

The lettering on the building is partly obscured; only “CHAMBER OF COMMERCE” is legible. Small text along the lower edge is not clear enough to transcribe.

Rights and credit

© the individual photographers and/or the Beaver Beacon. The gallery's own footer states, verbatim: "Copyright Note: You must obtain written permission from the copyright holder before using any of these images for any commercial purpose. Contact the Beaver Beacon if you have any questions or need to contact the copyright owner of a specific image." The site footer adds: "© 2002-2010 The Beaver Beacon. All Rights Reserved." No licence, public-domain dedication or terms-of-use page was located anywhere on the gallery; the note above addresses commercial use only and is silent on non-commercial republication, and that silence is recorded as silence rather than read as permission.

Credit this to Beaver Beacon (individual photographers credited per image) when you use it.

Why this archive publishes it. Beaver Beacon site and photo gallery. The gallery's notice conditions COMMERCIAL use on written permission and says nothing about any other use; this archive is non-commercial, so that condition is met. Credit and a link to the photo's own gallery page accompany every item. The gallery is also no longer maintained — its newest upload is dated 2019-05-26 and the site footer stops at 2010 — which is the case for preserving it rather than an argument that its terms lapsed. Removal on request, from the Beacon or from any photographer.

Material goes off the web without anyone deciding that it should: a host lapses, a gallery is retired, a link stops resolving. Holding a copy — with its provenance, its checksum and its holder's terms recorded beside it — is much of why this archive exists. If you are looking for something whose original has since gone, write to michael.bommarito@gmail.com and a full-size copy of what is held here will be sent to you.

Recorded verbatim from the provenance sidecar taken at retrieval — this archive does not restate a holder's terms in its own words, does not add a restriction the holder did not state, and does not abridge one.

The archive holds its own copy of that file and will supply it on request; it is not re-served here, because the holder serves it better and a second copy is a second thing to go stale.
