Summary

PABI organized a road rally in spring 2003 as a benefit for the Preservation Association of Beaver Island. The March Beaver Beacon announcement scheduled the rally for May 11, while an October retrospective reported that the first annual rally was held May 4. The exact date remains disputed in the held notices.

History

The March announcement described a rally by the “infamous Beth Green Lucas” to benefit PABI. It said Beaver Island and Charlevoix businesses would sponsor all entries and directed participants to Joan for details and sign-up information.

The October retrospective described the event as fun and puzzling, based on Phil Hoffman’s Outhouse poster. It thanked the Shamrock and Nina’s for providing the starting and ending places and credited Beth Ann and Joan. The same notice listed the next year’s rally for May 2, showing that PABI planned to continue the format, but it did not provide a complete series record.

Evidence and limits

The March notice is a contemporary announcement and the October notice is a retrospective. They establish the PABI connection and the date conflict, but neither notice gives the route, clue text, vehicle list, or a connection to the Blue Trail or South End Lighthouse.
