Summary

The August 1967 Beaver Beacon described Beaver Island as an international meeting place for two Youth for Understanding students. Heather Wenden of Staffordshire, England, was visiting the Leon Scouts of Cedar Springs, while Ulrike Graubner of Lüneburg, West Germany, had returned with the family of Dr. Robert B. Smith. Both sailed back to Europe on the Aurelia on July 29.

Evidence and limits

This is a newspaper account of a cross-cultural exchange and its local host connections. It does not provide Youth for Understanding program records or a complete account of either student’s stay.
