In late 2002 the Beaver Island Volunteer Fire Department acquired a 1979 Ford 3,500-gallon diesel tanker from Saugatuck. It was intended to replace the department’s 1966 Army 6x6 tanker, while the department’s fleet totaled five trucks, including a 2001 International pumper.
