Summary

After the 1967 telephone-office fire, Beaver Island’s temporary equipment in the old Holy Cross Hall kitchen became inadequate. By November 1968, a new metal telephone building had been constructed and new equipment was being installed, with extended lines and additional off-island circuits planned.

Evidence and limits

The Beacon reports reconstruction and intended expansion, but not final service tests, costs, engineering plans, or the exact completion date.

Open questions

  • When did the new building and equipment enter full service?
  • What records document the expanded circuits and line routes?
