Summary
The Beaver Beacon’s February and March 2009 issues announce a March 14th “Great Day” of games (Paddy Wagon Race, Fish Toss, Tug-O-War, Fish Stomp, Limerick Contest, King and Queen Contest, and several new events); the April 2009 issue reports the outcome as “a wonderful St. Paddy’s Day,” with good weather, live music, and nearly 100 new faces.
Program
Per the March 2009 announcement: the Paddy Wagon Race (5-man team, with a new event), the Fish Toss, the Tug-O-War (“Hayseeders vs Fishchokers”), “Panties in a Knot” (4-man team, new that year), the Fish Stomp (4-man team), Mix and Match (1 man, 1 woman), “Back to Back” (4-man team, new that year), the Limerick Contest, and the King and Queen Contest (a jig, a trivia question, costumes required). The outcome report notes live bands and nearly 100 new attendees, without naming individual event winners.
Evidence limits
Neither source names a specific venue for the games themselves (the
announcement names the Shamrock, Beachcomber, and Donegal Danny’s Pub only as
raffle-ticket sale points for a separate AmVets Ladies Auxiliary fundraiser),
so took_place_at is left empty and spatial_status is approximate rather
than assumed from the pattern of adjacent years. No individual event winners
are reported for 2009 in the sources read here, unlike 2005 and 2006.
Open questions
- Who won the individual 2009 events (Paddy Wagon Race, Fish Toss, Tug-O-War, King and Queen Contest), and is that reported in an issue not checked here?
- Was the 2009 games site the Shamrock, consistent with 2004-2008, even though this specific report does not name it?
