Summary

The February 1964 Beaver Beacon’s “Beaver Tales” recounts a building said to have been constructed around 1904 as the Silver Top Saloon, later used as a tailor shop and then as the St. James post office. The issue also prints a compiled chronology of postal offices and postmasters for Beaver Island, the Fox Islands, High Island, and Nomad, along with current St. James addressing and rural-carrier information.

Evidence and limits

This is a retrospective newspaper compilation and recollection. It does not establish a deed chain, building survey, complete federal postal register, or independent verification of every date and name.

Sources

  1. Recounts a reported Silver Top Saloon building, later uses including the St. James post office, and a compiled chronology of Beaver, Fox Islands, High Island, and Nomad postal offices and postmasters; the historical account is not a deed, building survey, or complete postal register.
