Summary

BETA Design refined a Beaver Island Community School facilities concept that would replace the oldest parts of the complex with a classroom wing near the gymnasium, add off-road parking, and provide a safer playground. The school board hoped to obtain Treasury permission to present a bond request to voters in August 2007.

Evidence limits

This is a planning report, not evidence that the bond was approved or that the proposed construction was completed.

  3. Public discussion and a response from Superintendent Kathleen McNamara describe the proposed $3.95 million, 25-year bond, the choice to replace the oldest and least functional spaces, and the role of BETA Design. These are public planning explanations, not an engineering report or final design.

  4. The superintendent explains that the proposed 2.3-mill maximum would replace the prior 1.46-mill 1993 bond and 0.89-mill sinking-fund levies, with an average annual bond levy of 1.89 mills. This is a public explanation, not a tax certification.
