Summary

When sleet prevented a Coast Guard helicopter from reaching Beaver Island, EMS contacted the USCG command post and arranged for the icebreaker Biscayne Bay to turn around from the Rock Island Pass area. Island crews prepared a dock and cleared a path; the cutter arrived at about 2:30 a.m. and evacuated the patient by sea.

Evidence limits

The Beacon’s narrative does not identify the patient’s medical condition or give a precise incident date, and it is not a Coast Guard operational log.
