Summary

In November 2017, Beaver Island residents raised concerns about commercial or tribal perch-fishing activity in or near the harbor and sought clarification from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. A resident later solicited witness statements and photographs for a DNR investigator concerning the tug Trio.

Evidence limits

This record documents a community concern and an evidence-gathering effort. It does not conclude that illegal fishing occurred, identify a DNR determination, or establish the condition of the perch fishery from forum discussion alone.

Sources

  1. Powers urged anglers to observe a stated 50-perch daily limit and said the DNR was looking into concerns about tribal/commercial fishing boats in restricted waters. Levi Connor later said he was collecting witness statements and photographs for a DNR investigator concerning the tug Trio. These are community reports and an appeal for evidence; they do not establish an unlawful act, the vessel’s exact operations, a DNR finding, or the status of the fishery.
