Summary

BIEMS published spring and fall boating guidance emphasizing that warm air does not make cold water safe. Ken Bruland’s article recommended wearing a PFD, carrying a whistle and throw rope, avoiding solo trips, telling someone the route, carrying communication devices and dry clothing, and using HELP or HUDDLE positions after a cold-water fall.

Evidence limits

This is a public safety article, not a dispatch record, rescue report, clinical guideline, or substitute for current marine-safety guidance.
