Summary

The February 1995 Beacon published a retrospective Medical Center status report covering its history, financial pressures, provider and grant changes, millage support, and rural-health designation. The continuation says Medicaid and Medicare returns remained inadequate, federal mandates created unrecoverable costs, patient-care income covered less than half of expenses, and billing and management reforms were being implemented while the Center remained in debt.

Evidence limits

The report is an institutional retrospective and self-assessment, not an audited financial statement, complete clinical-service log, or independent verification of reimbursement, mandate, or cost figures.

  1. Reviews the Center’s transition from hospital to clinic, state grant and provider history, financial crises, millage and fundraising support, and 1992 designation as a Rural Health Center in an Underserved Frontier Health Area; the continuation reports weak Medicaid/Medicare returns, mandated costs, less-than-half cost recovery from patient care, billing and management reforms, and the institution’s continuing deficit. The holding institution's portal restricts automated access; the archive holds a copy of this issue and can provide it on request.
