Summary
In a signed August 1996 letter, Deirdre and Tom Toeller-Novak argued that Beaver Island taxes were a “blessing” because they supported services and institutions they valued, including the Medical Center, school, transfer station, roads, Boat Company, conservation work, emergency services, library, Historical Society, and Central Michigan University cooperation. They wrote as part-time residents who relied on year-round residents to guide the Island’s future.
Evidence limits
This is an opinion letter and first-person account, not an independent fiscal analysis or a complete inventory of township-funded services.
