Summary

The January 1960 Beaver Beacon printed a Beaver Island Historical Society membership application with regular, contributing, sustaining, and life dues and identified Vera Wogen as treasurer. The April issue later printed a roster headed “New Members—in July,” whose date and membership context remain as printed. In October, the Society reported new museum items and appealed for further articles, legal papers, and letters during the winter.

Evidence and limits

The form is a membership appeal, not a membership roll, receipt ledger, charter, or minutes record. The April roster is likewise not treated as a complete or independently dated membership ledger. The October appeal is not treated as proof that any particular item was donated or accessioned.

Open questions

  • Why does the April issue label its new-member roster “in July,” and which Society records establish the roster’s actual date?

Sources

  1. Prints membership categories and dues: regular $3, contributing $10, sustaining $50, and life $100; gives a remittance address in St. James and identifies Vera Wogen as treasurer. It supplies no membership roll, receipts, charter, or completed applications.

  2. The held four-page issue scan is paired with the OCR source and confirms the published notice or report; it does not expand the source-specific identity, event, or outcome claims.

  3. Prints a roster headed “NEW MEMBERS—in July,” including households and individuals. The heading is temporally odd in an April issue; the roster is preserved as printed and is not converted into unsupported individual identity records.

  5. Reports many visitors and new museum items, asks islanders to look for articles, legal papers, letters, or other material during winter, and says five Michigan Historical Society members visited during summer. It does not provide an accession ledger, visitor count, or complete visitor roster.
