Summary

The Beaver Island Civic Association organized a harbor-beach cleanup on April 20, 1963, while unusually low water exposed debris. The May Beaver Beacon reports that volunteers using trucks and tractors removed 22 loads of tires, tin cans, broken bottles, engines, logs, and other wreckage between 1 and 5 p.m.

Evidence and limits

This is a contemporary newspaper account of a volunteer cleanup. It does not provide a volunteer roster, dump receipts, measurements of material removed, or evidence of long-term shoreline conditions.

Open questions

  • Can Civic Association records or photographs document the cleanup and its disposal site?
