Summary

The December 1974 Beaver Beacon reports a record local deer season with more than 80 bucks taken, excellent rabbit hunting, hoped-for winter perch in the harbor, and a commercial whitefish catch of more than 1.5 tons by Paul Kenwabikise. It also describes trout as having made a comeback.

Evidence and limits

These are community observations and a reported catch, not a harvest register, commercial fishery log, wildlife census, regulation, or biological survey. The issue’s “rimrods” wording is preserved without normalization.

Sources

  1. Reports that more than 80 bucks were taken in the completed 1974 deer season, compared with previous seasons in the thirties; calls rabbit hunting excellent and describes an influx of “rimrods,” preserving the source’s term; says winter harbor perch fishing might return; and reports Paul Kenwabikise making a commercial catch of more than 1.5 tons of whitefish. It also says trout had made a comeback and might again benefit the island economy, but supplies no harvest register, fishery log, regulation, or biological survey.
