Beaver Island Civic Association plans a children's-parade Fourth of July for 1968

The July issue reported that the celebration took place, with decorated children’s entries, Holy Cross Hall booths, games, a lunch counter, named prize winners, and evening fireworks.

Program

The issue advertises “PARADE - ENTERTAINMENT - FOOD - FIREWORKS” and then describes the parade specifically: only children would take part, with businesses invited to sponsor a child or children on the condition that “the children build the floats,” while adults would only drive the towing cars. Interested sponsors were directed to contact Marge Wagner. The parade route would begin at the Medical Center, proceed to the County Garage, and return by the same route. Games and prizes were planned for “everyone to take a try,” and the hall would hold sales booths and a lunch counter; anyone wanting a booth was asked to contact Gladys Schnaudigel, Alvin LaFreniere, or Marge Wagner. The notice states plainly that “the income from this affair is for the benefit of the Civic Association.”

The May-June item is a pre-event announcement; the July item is a completion report. Neither held source supplies an attendance count or audited proceeds. The June 1968 Beacon issue itself is not held here (the May and July issues are separate files; no 1968-06 file exists).
