Summary
The May 2011 Beacon reports plans for Emerald Ash Borer traps at 16 Island monitoring sites, removal in August, quarantine signs at transportation points, and “Do Not Move Firewood” outreach. The October issue reports that Jane Winkler checked all 16 traps and none contained Emerald Ash Borer. A 2012 Beaver Island Association update says the 2012 trapping did not begin after funding cuts and that USDA APHIS was expected to supply traps for 2013 with volunteer monitoring. The earlier notice reports possible fines of up to $25,000 for noncompliance.
Evidence limits
This documents a negative 2011 trap check and a locally reported 2012 monitoring gap, not proof that the Island was immune from later infestation, nor a complete enforcement or population survey. The 2013 plan is not independently confirmed in the held sources.
