Summary

Reprinted April 1908 reports said engineer David Chase was killed at Bonner’s Landing on Beaver Island when rails spread beneath a logging train and the locomotive tipped over. The reports said the fireman and brakeman escaped uninjured, Chase was crushed beneath the engine, and his remains were taken to Mayfield for burial.

Evidence limits

This record preserves a 2008 newspaper reprint of 1908 reports. The date is reconstructed from the “last Thursday” wording in the April 23 issue and is approximate; the entry is not a coroner’s record, railroad log, or cemetery register.
