The June 1997 Beaver Beacon describes two October cruise-boat visits to Beaver Island: October 1 and October 10. Organizers planned narrated tours, special transportation, and a Village Green market for island artists and craftspeople, with literature prepared for European visitors.
An October notice welcomes passengers of the MS Columbus on October 1 and 13. The two issues therefore preserve a date discrepancy—October 10 in the June planning notice versus October 13 in the later welcome notice—without enough evidence here to resolve whether the schedule changed or the notices refer to different port calls.
The November follow-up reports that the first Columbus visit was positively received despite delayed debarkation, a shortened stay, limited tour capacity, and cancellation of the second trip because of weather. It says the ship would return and that six 1998 cruises were under consideration, without confirming the final schedule.
The December Chamber notice narrows that outlook to two cruises booked for September/October 1998, while still saying more were likely.
